This Privacy Policy explains how MeasureMyMeal handles information when you use the MeasureMyMeal Android application and related website.
1. Information you provide or create
Depending on the features you use, MeasureMyMeal may process account information, household profile information, meal and pantry records, food photographs, receipt information, notes, nutrition information, expiry information, preferences, feedback and settings.
2. Google sign-in and Firebase
If you sign in with Google, Firebase Authentication is used to authenticate your account. Cloud synchronisation may use Cloud Firestore for user-scoped meal, pantry, usage and notification records. Firebase Cloud Functions may be used for server-side application features.
3. AI processing
Meal, label, receipt or related food information may be sent to an AI service when you choose an AI-powered feature. MeasureMyMeal supports a managed AI route and a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) route.
When you use Bring Your Own Key, your Gemini API key is encrypted and stored locally on your device. MeasureMyMeal does not store that API key in its database or on its servers. Requests made with your own key are subject to Google's applicable Gemini API terms, quotas and billing.
4. Images
Most meal and related images are stored in app-private storage on your device for in-app display. Images may also be processed temporarily when required to perform a feature you request, such as AI food analysis.
Board photos: if you choose to post a meal photo to the Board, that photo is uploaded to and stored on our servers (Firebase Storage). It can be seen by you and by the friends you are linked with on the Board. It stays stored until you delete the post. Photos you do not post are not uploaded for storage.
5. Health Connect
If you choose to connect Health Connect, MeasureMyMeal may read health and fitness data for the features you explicitly permit. Access depends on the permissions you grant in Android. You can change or revoke Health Connect permissions through Android settings.
6. Purchases
Paid subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. MeasureMyMeal may receive purchase status or entitlement information needed to provide paid features. Payment card details are handled by Google Play and are not stored by MeasureMyMeal.
7. Analytics, diagnostics and security
Where enabled and permitted, MeasureMyMeal may process app interaction, diagnostic or security information to understand app performance, prevent abuse, enforce limits and investigate failures. Firebase services may process technical identifiers and diagnostic information as part of providing these services.
8. Household profiles
The app can support multiple household profiles. Information entered for another household member should only be added where you have an appropriate basis to do so.
9. Groups, friends and shared features
If you link with friends or family, create a group, or use the Board, the information you choose to share is visible to the people you share it with. For example, members of a group can see the items, prices, dates, names and payment records added to that group's ledger, and linked friends can see the Board status and any meal photo you choose to publish (you can switch your status off, hide it from individual people, or delete a post). Group owners can edit group details and the items in the group. If you add business details to create invoices (such as a business name, address, phone number, email, tax number or payment details), they are stored with the group, are visible to its members, and are printed on invoices you choose to generate and share. A logo you add for invoices is stored only on your device. Information shared with a group or friend may remain on their devices, or in anything they share onward, even if you later remove it.
Seller and bookkeeping features add a few more records to a group. An owner can mark an entry as their own expense, which is kept with the group’s records and hidden from customers in the app. For any entry you can optionally attach evidence: we store only a file name, a fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) and/or a web link that you provide, never the file itself, so keep the original yourself. Group owners and accountants (a read-only role an owner can give to a member) can see a change history of who added, edited or deleted entries, changed roles or locked a period; these history records are written by the app and are stored with the group until the group is deleted. Owners can lock a period so earlier entries cannot be changed. Excel files you export are created on your device and shared only through the option you choose. When you upload a bill as a photo or PDF, from your gallery, Google Drive, Dropbox or elsewhere, it is read to find items and prices and is not stored by MeasureMyMeal; if an AI feature is used, the image is processed as described in section 3.
10. Push notifications and device identifiers
If you allow notifications, MeasureMyMeal uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to notify you about group activity and game invitations. To deliver them, a device notification token is stored against your account. You can turn notifications off in Android settings at any time. Tokens that are no longer valid are removed automatically.
11. Data retention
Data is retained only for as long as needed to provide the relevant feature, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, protect the service or support legitimate operational needs.
12. Deleting your account and data
You can use the account and data controls in MeasureMyMeal to request deletion. For instructions and an external deletion route, visit Delete account and data.
13. International processing
Service providers may process information in countries outside the UK. Where required, appropriate legal safeguards should apply to international transfers.
14. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to certain processing, and to receive a copy of certain personal data. You may also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
15. AI and nutrition disclaimer
AI-generated food identification, quantities and nutrition estimates may be inaccurate. MeasureMyMeal provides nutrition and wellness information for informational purposes and is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition.
